What is it? 

Private summer party for Soho House members and their guests.  Afternoon and evening of food, drink and entertainment.  The event is not open for general admission. 

Will the park be open while the event is on? 

Yes, all entrances in to and out of the park will remain open. The event is based in the Old Cricket Pitch and part of Heritage Parkland which is in the Southern area of the park but some other areas of the park will contain infrastructure such as barrier, fencing, lighting and toilets to ensure event related traffic or customers can arrive and depart safely and easily. Approximately 80% of the park will remain open as usual.

Will the park’s other facilities be open while the event is on? 

Yes, the sports centre, museum, and car park will all be open as usual however, on 2nd July there will be two changes: the small car park (next to the Museum) will be closed, and a one-way system will be implemented in the car park for safety reasons. The event organisers will be providing stewards and installing barrier in and near the car park to direct event related traffic and other traffic also using the car park during this time. Your cooperation in following their directions is appreciated.  

Will nearby streets, traffic and parking be affected? 

Event attendees are being encouraged to travel by public transport and the event organisers have publicised that there is no parking available at the event or in the local area. No road closures are planned for this event.  There is a dedicated taxi and pick up and drop off operation within Gunnersbury Park to minimise the impact of vehicular traffic on the main road.  This will be signposted, stewarded and communicated to event attendees in advance. The event organisers are implementing robust crowd management and dispersal plans to help move customers away from the area and to public transport hubs as safely, quickly, and quietly as possible. It is expected that the majority of attendees will arrive and depart by Acton Town Station, the high volume of people crossing the A406 to get to Acton Town station might mean that there are longer waits at these traffic lights. Thank you for your patience. 

What are the event organisers proposing to do about litter? 

The event organisers are implementing a waste management plan which includes regularly collecting and clearing waste from their arena, the other areas in the park being used for the event, and in the surrounding streets being used by their customers who are arriving and departing from nearby transport hubs.  The schedule of collections continues throughout the event, and post event to ensure parks and proximate locations are clear the next day.  Streets covered include Popes Lane from the Sports Centre entrance to A406 crossing (and around this area) and then along Gunnersbury Lane to Acton Town station.  The event organisers are also committed to reducing their impact on the environment. 

Will the event cause noise nuisance? 

A comprehensive Noise Management Plan has been developed by the event organisers in consultation with competent acousticians and the Council’s Noise Pollution Officers. Construction and deconstruction should not be audible beyond the boundary of the park outside of 08:00 to 20:00. The stages have been positioned to minimise the likelihood of performance noise being a nuisance while the concert is live. If you do experience nuisance noise you can contact the event organisers using the contact details which will be circulated prior to the event. Upon receiving a complaint about noise, the event organiser will ask for information so they are able to respond. This response might involve sending a member of the event organiser’s Noise Monitoring Team to your location so they can take readings and make adjustments to the event’s amplified sound if necessary.

How will the weather affect the sound?

The BBC weather forecast for Thursday 02 July is for winds from the west during the day veering to from the north in the evening. The wind affects the way sound from events in the park travels beyond the perimeter by causing areas downwind of the park i.e. to the east and south on Thursday, to experience more noise compared to neutral conditions, whilst areas to the west and north undergo less noise. This means that some people may hear noise from the event whereas they normally do not hear anything or hear slightly more noise than they usually do. No matter how the wind may influence the spread of noise from the event the noise levels will be proactively monitored and the noise limits approved by the licensing authority will still apply.
