Caring for Gunnersbury Museum: Internal Redecoration Works – January 2026

Gunnersbury Museum is a Grade II listed historic mansion that welcomes thousands of visitors each year for exhibitions, learning programmes, community events, and celebrations. As a busy and well-loved public building, some of our most-used spaces naturally show signs of wear over time.

The main ground floor entrances and corridors, which see particularly high levels of footfall, are now due some routine care. After around seven years of continuous use, we will be carrying out partial internal redecoration works in January 2026 as part of our regular building maintenance programme.

The works will focus on refreshing and reinstating existing finishes and will include:

  • Repainting ceilings and walls
  • Redecorating skirtings, architraves, and doors
  • Sanding and varnishing selected wooden floors to reinstate their finish

These works are carefully planned and limited in scope, ensuring the historic character of the building is respected at all times. Using appropriate materials and methods helps us protect the original fabric of the building and maintain its appearance for future generations.

This programme of cyclical maintenance is an important part of how we care for Gunnersbury Museum, helping to keep it welcoming, safe, and enjoyable for all who visit.

Thank you for your patience and support while we carry out these essential works.
