Dressing Princess Amelia

Tuesday 7 May

Join The Staymaker, Ian Chipperfield, for a fascinating evening exploring how a Georgian lady would have been dressed for a formal occasion. Using a formal gown and assorted replica clothing on a living model, Ian will demonstrate how the complete outfit was constructed – the underwear, the layers involved, how garments would have been fastened, and how moving and sitting was affected. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and even to try on some of the replica clothing for yourself.

Ian Chipperfield originally trained as a dressmaker and pattern cutter before developing a passion for historic costume. Highly experienced in creating outfits using authentic period techniques, Ian lectures extensively around the UK and teaches sewing groups in a range of settings.
