Curator’s Talk: Wonder Wheels – The Record-Breaking Eileen Sheridan

Saturday 28 September

One of Britain’s greatest cyclists, local resident Eileen Sheridan broke 21 records for distance and speed in the 1940s and 50s; her time for riding 1000 miles was unbeaten for 48 years and 5 of her records stand to this day. 25 September marks the 70th anniversary of Sheridan setting the women’s 12-hour cycle record, and to celebrate we will be showing Tony Collins’s short film, Come on Eileen, and discussing Sheridan’s remarkable achievements.
