Curator’s Talk: West London’s Aeronautical Heritage
On 12 November 1919 a crew of four Australians departed from Hounslow Heath Aerodrome in a Vickers Vimy and flew on to Darwin in 27 days, winning the England to Australia Air Race. In 1930 Mary Victor Bruce set off from Heston Aerodrome on a solo round-theworld trip, becoming the first person to fly from England to Japan. In 1931, 250 boy scouts held down the Graf Zeppelin airship when it visited Hanworth Air Park. Join Senior Curator Julia Tubman to hear the fascinating stories of Ealing and Hounslow’s now-forgotten aerodromes and airfields.
