Gertrude Hermes OBE (1901 – 1983) was one of the most innovative wood engravers of the 20th century. This talk, in connection with the ‘In the Groove’ exhibition, will demonstrate Hermes’s enduring fascination with the natural world, through her sketchbooks, prints and sculpture. Focusing on her training and technique, it will explore both literary and personal influences on her work.
