Visitor Experience Manager
Full time, fixed term until August 2021
Are you a visitor experience and volunteering specialist keen to make a difference in the non-profit sector? Passionate about using heritage and the natural environment to connect people and place and promote wellbeing? We’re looking for a people-focussed, energetic and superbly organised individual to lead our front of house team and volunteering programme.
Gunnersbury CIC is the non-profit organisation established to manage and conserve the historic Gunnersbury estate and deliver a museum service to over 600,000 west London residents. Working collaboratively across the organisation, you’ll increase engagement with local heritage through our volunteering programmes, support commercial activities including our museum shop, and ensure excellence in welcome and customer service for our day visitors and event attendees.
We’re a new organisation, already achieving great results – we topped our annual visitor target of 30,000 museum visitors in under ten months – and with plenty of ambition for the future. You’ll be working in a Grade II* listed Regency mansion in a beautiful listed park. Summer Gardener (fixed term contact)
Salary: London Living Wage (£10.55 per hour)
Contracted hours: Approx. 190 hours over the summer
As a Summer Gardener, you’ll assist in making sure that the garden and parkland are maintained to a high standard. You’ll be passionate, enthused and knowledgeable about the varied plants within the garden and able to talk to people about them. This role will include a range of practical horticultural tasks to develop, enhance and conserve the garden and contribute to the delivery of projects. You’ll be helping with hard and soft landscaping and general maintenance of the garden and parkland including mulching, pruning, leaf clearing and weeding. You’ll support with the planting and maintenance of trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants. You’ll be helping to cut the hedges and mow our grassland and lawns.

Heritage Training Placements

We are happy to offer short-term work experience placements for students at secondary school, college or university.
Our placements usually take place over one or two weeks and we aim to give students an overview of working at a busy heritage site. Whenever possible, we give students experience across Gunnersbury’s three major areas:
• Learning – assisting with events and activities for a range of different audiences
• Horticulture – supporting the Head Gardener with park-based tasks
• Curatorial – working with the curator to look after the collections
Longer placements for college and university students working within a specific department can sometimes be accommodated.
